Whether traveling on land or water, keeping gear dry in the Tongass is a challenge. Much of Southeast Alaska is considered a temperate rain forest, so precipitation of differing degrees of intensity can be counted on almost every day. In the battle against moisture, dry bags are an important weapon. They come in many sizes, and some have handy backpack straps for hiking. As with any gear, it is important to put it to the test before heading out into the field.
